Champion Day

The iconic Cheltenham roar marks the first day of the Festival, known as Champion Day, featuring seven races (4 hurdles and 3 chases). The highlighted race of the day is the UNIBET Champion Hurdle, a Grade 1 event spanning 2 miles. Trainer Willie Mullins and Jockey Paul Townend set the pace for the week as favorite Lossiemouth made it three winners for the duo on Champion Day of the 2024 Cheltenham Festival in the Mares Hurdle.

In a historic moment at the Festival in 2023, jump racing fans witnessed the incredible performance of Constitution Hill in the UNIBET Champion Hurdle. Under the guidance of jockey Nico de Boinville and trainer Nicky Henderson, Constitution Hill dominated the race with remarkable agility and speed. This victory marked Henderson’s 9th Champion Hurdle win, spanning nearly four decades from 1985 to 2023. However, due to his absence State Man had proven victorious for this highly anticipated race in 2024.

Find out who will be victorious for the Champion Day in 2025 with official Cheltenham Festival hospitality packages for the ultimate raceday.

Enthusiastic participants flaunted their unique styles in professional photographs taken within our chic pod at Best Mate Plaza. Meanwhile, Captain Guinness secured a triumphant victory in the 2024 Betway Queen Mother Champion Chase, joining the esteemed ranks of champions like Altior and Sprinter Sacre. Jockey Rachel Blackmore, who received her trophy from Her Majesty The Queen Camilla, expressed her thoughts on the win: “He travelled incredibly, jumped really well, but it felt like a long hill! He’s enthusiastic…has been knocking at the door in these races but, man, this is the best in the division… So pleased for owner Declan Landy.”

St Patrick's Thursday

In 2024, St. Patrick’s Thursday at the Cheltenham Festival took a surprising turn away from its usual Irish-centric focus. While the initial days had been characterized by the dominance of Irish-trained horses, today’s events marked a notable shift. The Pertemps race saw the top six positions claimed by British horses, with British contenders triumphing in five out of the seven races. This reshuffling of the Prestbury Cup standings left Britain with 8 wins against Ireland’s 12.

Football legend and owner Sir Alex Ferguson celebrated a double victory at the Cheltenham Festival, with Monmiral clinching the Pertemps Network Final and Portekorat triumphing in the Ryanair Steeple Chase. Reflecting on his success, Ferguson remarked, “Two wins in 40 minutes! It’s unbelievable, isn’t it? It’s a special place.” But Ferguson wasn’t the only football figure making waves at the Festival; former Premier League Manager Harry Rednapp’s horse, Shakem Up ‘arry, claimed victory in the Trustatrader Plate Handicap Steeple Chase.

Meanwhile, fan favorite Paisley Park concluded his illustrious career in the Paddy Power Stayers’ Hurdle, guided by trainer Emma Lavelle and owner Andrew Gemmell. Despite securing victory in 11 of his 31 races and accumulating £729,426 in prize money, Paisley Park finished tenth in Thursday’s Grade 1 race, leading to the decision to retire him. His legacy, marked by four Grade 1 victories and numerous thrilling performances, will be fondly remembered.

As a new era beckons for the Cheltenham Festival, who knows if Alex Fergusons steeds have what it takes to claim victory in 2025 or who will take the place of fan favourite Paisley Park? – Find out for yourself with official Cheltenham Festival hospitality packages to immerse yourself in all the St Patricks Day festivities.

Gold Cup Day

The Cheltenham Festival of 2024 was a spectacular showcase of horseracing excellence, marking a significant milestone with the celebration of the Gold Cup’s centenary. The atmosphere buzzed with excitement as racegoers gathered from far and wide to witness the thrilling competitions unfold. Jockey Paul Townend emerged as a standout figure, capturing the hearts of spectators once again by guiding Galopin Des Champs to victory in the prestigious Gold Cup. This triumph marked Townend’s fourth win in the event, a remarkable achievement that equaled the record set by Al Boum Photo in 2019 and 2020.

As the curtains closed on another unforgettable festival, anticipation brewed for the following year’s edition, with fans eager to see if Galopin Des Champs and Townend could secure a historic hat-trick in 2025. You could be one of them by securing your official Cheltenham Festival hospitality.
