Artist Bio
Early Years
Gorillaz previously formed in the late 1990s as a collaboration between Damon Albarn and artist Jamie Hewlett, with early contributions from Dan “The Automator” Nakamura, Miho Hatori, Tina Weymouth, and Chris Frantz. The virtual band featured 2-D (vocals/keys), Murdoc (bass), Russel (drums), and Noodle (guitar). Later, their 2000 EP Tomorrow Comes Today and the hit single Clint Eastwood led to their self-titled debut album in 2001, selling over seven million copies worldwide.
Rise To Stardom
The band later returned in 2005 with Demon Days, co-produced with Danger Mouse, earning Grammy nominations and double-platinum status in the U.S. Plastic Beach and The Fall continued their experimental approach. Following a best-of compilation, Gorillaz returned with Humanz and The Now Now.
Global Success
The Song Machine project also featured collaborations with Elton John, Robert Smith, and Beck, leading to Cracker Island, a Grammy-nominated album showcasing their melodic and rhythmic strengths. They evidently remain one of the most innovative and globally recognized virtual bands.
