Artist Bio
The Killers consist of Brandon Flowers (vocals/keyboards), David Keuning (guitar), Mark Stoermer (bass), and Ronnie Vannucci (drums), was formed in late 2001. Flowers had separated from his previous synth-pop band, Blush Response, as he declined to relocate to Los Angeles with the rest of the group. Opting to stay in Las Vegas, Flowers crossed paths with local guitarist and Oasis enthusiast Keuning. The two started working together, and in a matter of weeks, they had crafted what would soon become their radio hit, “Mr. Brightside.
A representative from Warner Bros. in the U.K. became aware of the growing popularity surrounding the Killers. While not signing them to Warner, the representative forwarded their demo to the London-based indie label Lizard King. Seizing the opportunity, Lizard King swiftly signed the Killers, prompting the band to temporarily relocate to the U.K. They released a limited-edition single for “Mr. Brightside” during this period.
By fall 2003, the Killers’ buzz had crossed the Atlantic, leading to an invitation to perform at the prestigious CMJ Music Marathon in New York City. Subsequently, a global deal with Island Records materialized, aligning the Killers with other indie/post-punk revivalists like Interpol, the Rapture, and the Strokes.
In 2004, the Killers embarked on shared U.K. dates with British Sea Power and stellastarr*, providing a platform to showcase songs from their debut album, “Hot Fuss,” released in June of that year. Tracks such as “Somebody Told Me,” “Mr. Brightside,” “Smile Like You Mean It,” and “All These Things That I’ve Done” achieved global chart success, propelling “Hot Fuss” to peak at number seven on the Billboard Top 200. The album’s triumph earned Flowers recognition, and by 2006, “Hot Fuss” had garnered five Grammy nominations and sold over five million copies.
