The long-awaited clash between Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua is expected to take place at Cardiff’s Principality Stadium on Friday 11 December, according to BBC Sport.

Cardiff has emerged as the frontrunner after plans for the fight to take place in New York reportedly stalled, with Joshua’s contractual agreement requiring the bout to be staged in the UK.

The Principality Stadium’s retractable roof is also a major factor, allowing organisers to stage a huge stadium event while protecting fans and the production from December’s unpredictable weather.

The venue can accommodate almost 74,000 seated spectators, with boxing configurations potentially allowing for an even larger crowd. Joshua has previously sold out the stadium, attracting nearly 80,000 fans for his 2017 victory over Carlos Takam.

Cardiff could also better accommodate Netflix’s preference for a late UK start time to suit its US audience. The Principality Stadium has previously hosted late-night boxing, including Joe Calzaghe’s 2007 victory over Mikkel Kessler.

An official announcement is expected this week, although final details are still being agreed between Netflix, Saudi organisers Sela and both fighters’ camps.
