Mayweather vs Pacquiao

The boxing match that the world has been waiting for has finally been confirmed, Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao are set to go head to head at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas on the 2nd of May in what is being billed as the richest fight in history.

American Floyd Mayweather, 37, and Philippine Manny Pacquiao, 36, are currently two of the biggest name in the sport with impressive fight records under their belts. Pacquiao has won 57 out of his 64 bouts with 5 losses while Mayweather is currently unbeaten in 47 contests.

The bout is expected to break all viewing records and become the biggest pay-per-view boxing match since Mayweather vs Oscar de la Hoya back in 2007 which pulled in 2.4m viewers in the United States alone.

About the announcement, Mayweather posted on his webpage:

“What the world has been waiting for has arrived.

Mayweather vs Pacquiao on May 2, 2015, is a done deal. I promised the fans we would get this done and we did.”

He added: “I am glad my decision to meet with Manny and discuss making this fight happen helped get the deal done.

Giving the fans what they want to see is always my main focus. This will be the biggest event in the history of the sport. Boxing fans and sports fans around the world will witness greatness on May 2.

I am the best ever and this fight will be another opportunity to showcase my skills and do what I do best, which is win. Manny is going to try to do what 47 before him failed to do, but he won’t be successful. He will be number 48.”

Mayweather and Pacquiao have been the two greatest fighters in their class for years now but despite huge public demand have never squared up together in the ring.  This will surely be a battle that will go down in history and finally answer the long debated question about which one of these epic boxers is the truly the greatest.
