Often considered the unofficial anthem of Manchester, Noel Gallagher’s “Don’t Look Back In Anger” was the fifth single from Oasis’s 1995 album What’s The Story (Morning Glory?). The track became a defining moment for the band, securing their second Number 1 single in 1996, following the success of “Some Might Say” in 1995. With an impressive 295.5 million UK streams to date, the song has become deeply ingrained in Manchester’s cultural fabric. Its significance was particularly highlighted in the wake of the tragic 2017 Manchester Arena bombing, where it was embraced by the city as a symbol of resilience. A poignant tribute was performed by students from Manchester’s Chetham’s School of Music, and the song re-entered the Official Singles Chart Top 40 in June 2017, following a moving rendition by Coldplay’s Chris Martin and Jonny Buckland at Ariana Grande’s One Love Manchester concert, honoring the victims of the attack.
